Apple Picking in Weston

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Fall is right around the corner! The humid mornings are starting to be replaced by mornings with crisp and cool air. While it is still low 80’s here in Kansas City, the temperature are already starting the drop.

One of my goals on this blog is to showcase things to do around Kansas City whether it be restaurants, shopping areas, fun boutiques, or ideas for a quick day trip. Kansas City is such a stunning and growing city and has so much to offer and I want to take you along as we continue to take advantage of all it has to offer! First up, is a fun day trip- Weston, MO!

Over Labor Day weekend my family and I headed to Weston, MO for some good ole fashioned fall fun. We spent the morning apple picking at the Historic Weston Orchard & Vineyard. There were rows and rows of apples and my nieces had so much fun going through and picking out their own apples! They also offered hay rides through the grounds which looked fun. Under their tent you could also buy different jams, jellies, apple butters, etc. We purchased some jalapeno jam and I can’t wait to make some fresh biscuits so we can try out the jam.

I also came home with a whole basket full of apples so now I’m debating between making an apple pie or apple crisp? Decisions, decisions…

After apple picking we went to the Red Barn Farm for apple slushes and to see all of their animals.  They had horses, chickens, sheep, pigs and stunning views. Their Farm Market also had really cute home décor items and fun kitchen items. Even though it was early September they already had all of their pumpkins out so I had to stock up on my favorite cute little white pumpkins- a staple in my fall decorating.

Being on the farm around all the animals always brings back such fond memories for me of growing up on a farm in western Kansas. It was fun to be able to see my nieces interact with all of the animals and see the joy on their face.

We finished up the day with pizza in downtown Weston, MO which is the cutest little downtown area.

All in all it was such a fun family day and a great way to kick off the fall season!

Fall Wedding

Wednesday, October 26, 2016

Two of our very best friends got married this past weekend in Kansas City. It was such a beautiful wedding for an even more beautiful couple. You know those friends you have that you can always count on to be there, or can call them up on a whim for a weekend away or impromptu date night? Well they are that for Tristan and I, and we couldn't be more thankful for their friendship.

I knew I wanted to get a new dress for their wedding and all of the festivities, but I didn't feel like breaking the bank. One of my favorite stores in college was Forever 21. I always could find so many cute things at such affordable prices. I hadn't shopped their in awhile but decided to browse online at their dresses. I was stunned, they had SO MANY CHOICES!

I ended up ordering three dresses (oops) and was planning to only keep my favorite for the wedding, and one for the rehearsal. I ended up keeping all three (again, oops!).

This one was perfect for the rehearsal. I loved that it was flowy and played into the cold shoulder trend with the lace. I have a feeling I will wear this dress time and time again!

For the wedding I was left with two options. Blue navy lace, or black lacy dress. I ended up going with the black lacy dress because I felt like it was more formal. I got SO many compliments on it and people were shocked to find out it was only $28 from Forever 21. When I find such a good deal, I can't help but share it with all of you- so do yourself a favor and go buy this dress! You won't regret it. I am wearing a size small and was happy with how it fit me.

Just please, whatever you do, DO NOT wear white to a wedding. Or any type of wedding event- bridal shower, engagement party, rehearsal dinner- just don't do it :) The only exception is if it is requested by the bride.

Fall Must Have Cardigan

Friday, October 14, 2016

Outfit Details: Cardigan | Jeans | Boots | Sunglasses

Happy Friday, friends! I will sharing the rest of our Colorado trip next week, but I had to pop in today and share this cardigan with you. I purchased this cardigan from Nordstrom in the late summer and couldn't wait for the temperatures to drop so I could wear it. Unfortunately it had still been pretty warm in KC, so I was so excited to bust this out in Colorado!

It is the perfect weight so it isn't too hot but heavy enough to keep you warm. I'm excited to wear it all throughout the fall. I think it would be cute paired with a dress and boots, too!

It is currently out of stock (sorry!) but Nordstrom constantly restocks it so keep checking back!

We were in Colorado right as the trees were changing colors and I seriously couldn't get over how beautiful they were, I can't wait to show you the rest of the pictures although they don't do it justice.

What are you all up to this weekend? Hope you have a fabulous one!

Chicken and Chorizo Chili + Jalapeno Cornbread

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

How was your weekend?

Ours was so relaxing! My favorite kind of weekend is when we don't have much planned and just get to go with the flow. I also had Columbus day off work, so 3 day weekend for me- wahoo!

We were in Colorado last weekend celebrating Tristan's 30th birthday (pictures coming soon!) so it was nice to have this weekend at home.

Friday night Tristan and I finally had a chance to try out Julep KC Cocktail Club down in Westport. It's this fun little cocktail lounge with a gorgeous bar and they its floor to wall stocked with liquor bottles. They use a ladder to reach all of the bottles at the top- very entertaining to watch! Their cocktails were really yummy so if you are looking for a fun date night idea, I highly recommend!

Saturday night for the KSU game I made our favorite white chicken and chorizo chili with jalapeño cornbread. This chili is one we make again and again during the fall and winter!

I posted the pic on Instagram and received a couple questions for the recipe so here you go!

The recipe is All Recipe's Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili but we add chorizo into it! Just brown your chorizo first, then set aside and mix back in when you add in your chicken. We also use fresh jalapeños instead of canned ones and sauté them with the onions. Adds a lot of heat and flavor. If you don't like it spicy, I recommend leaving the jalapeños out. Remember the shredded chicken I talked about in my meal planning post? I had some in the freezer which worked perfect for throwing into this chili.

The cornbread recipe I tried is this one. I was impressed with it but next time won't put in as many corn kernels.

My cast iron skillet is from The Pioneer Woman's new line- link here. I love it!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Black & White for Fall

Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Shoes: Jessica Simpson | Jeans: Old Navy Mid-Rise Rockstar Skinnies | Flannel: Forever 21- Similar here | Purse: Kate Spade- Old by similar here

The weather here in KC is finally starting to feeling like fall! The morning air is getting cooler and you can actually be outside without sweating. While it still isn't cool enough to whip out scarfs and run around in boots, I am starting to incorporate some of fall favorites like flannels. I love look of an over-sized flannel button up dressed down with leggings and boots (for later in the season) or dressed up with skinny jeans and heels for a casual date night.

This flannel is from Forever 21 and I just ordered a few sizes up so that it would be a bit larger and allow me to tie it at the waist.

Fall Home Tour 2016

Wednesday, September 21, 2016

I'm so excited to be showing our fall home tour today on the blog! Once Labor Day hits, my mind starts thinking fall. I always wait for a cool morning where I can open up the windows, light a fall candle and sip on coffee while putting up my decor- just gets me in an inspired mood. It's my yearly tradition, and one I look forward to more than I should.

As you've seen here, here, and here, my interior style tends to be rustic, neutrals and distressed whites. While I still gravitate towards that with holiday decor, I try to bring in more of the colors of the  season- the beautiful fall colors of tinted orange, burgundy, greens, etc. I still keep the decor rustic-ish though, so it keeps with the theme of the house.

My statement is always my mantle, and I always focus most of my decoration there. Then, I sprinkle some throughout the rest of the house. I don't think that holiday decor needs to be over the top to the point where there is a pumpkin everywhere you look. Just enough to make the home feel cozy and festive. Nice and simple.

Hope you enjoyed our fall home tour- how do you decorate your house for fall? I would love to see pictures!
